Vaibhav Gehlot, son of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, will be pitted against Ram Prakash Choudhary in the election for the post of the president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA).
Choudhary, a candidate put up by the Lalit Modi group, filed his nomination at the eleventh hour before the deadline today. Gehlot had filed his papers late on Tuesday night. Former RCA president and IPL commissioner Lalit Modi’s group has fielded a contestant for each of the six posts of RCA. Due to the disaffiliation of three district associations, Modi supporters Vinod Saharan and RN Nandu could not file their nominations.
Gehlot Jr had contested the Lok Sabha election last year from Jodhpur, and was defeated by BJP’s Gajendra Singh Shekhawat by a margin of over 2 lakh votes. Gehlot is supported by outgoing RCA president CP Joshi, who is also the Speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly.
Nominations can be withdrawn tomorrow, and voting would be held on October 4. There are now 32 eligible votes in RCA, including of 30 district associations (after disaffiliation of three district associations), and two of former international cricketers.
