Dipika Pallikal Karthik dethroned defending champion Joshna Chinappa to regain the women’s title in the 73rd Senior National Squash Championship here today. She won 4-11 11-6 11-2 11-8 in 43 minutes. The men’s crown was captured by title holder and top seed Saurav Ghosal, who created history by winning it for the 11th time. He defeated fourth seed Harinderpal Singh Sandhu 11-7 7-11 3-11 11-8 14-12 in five hard-fought games.

Henin, Safin ushered into Hall of Fame

Justine Henin, a shy, petite Belgian with a fierce desire to win, and Russian Marat Safin were honoured as the new inductees into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island. Henin and Safin were joined in the festivities by Amelie Mauresmo, who was inducted last year but was unable to attend induction ceremonies due to the birth of her son.

Garner appointed Windies team manager

Former West Indies fast bowler Joel Garner has been roped in as the team manager of the national cricket team ahead of the Test series against India. The 63-year-old will serve at the post for the next three years. Garner said he is looking forward to sharing his experience with the players.”It is always an honour to serve in any capacity in West Indies cricket and I’m pleased to be back with the team as manager to share my knowledge and experience,” Garner, who played 58 Tests and 98 ODIs, said.
