Vancouver, March 26
The Indian women’s team drew with Chile 2-2 in a practice match ahead of the Women’s Hockey World League Round 2.
Chile got off to a positive start with an 18th-minute field goal by Agustina Venegas. It didn’t help India’s cause when Renuka Yadav was shown the green card only a minute before Chile scored the goal. But India held their nerves to score an equaliser in the 35th minute through a penalty corner conversion by Anupa Barla.
In the next minute, Vandana Katariya scored a stunning field goal to give India the lead for the first time.
Though Indian defended well, a foot foul led to Chile being awarded a penalty corner, which Venegas converted in the 53rd minute.
India will meet Canada in their next practice match before they begin their HWL Round 2 campaign on April 1 against Uruguay. — PTI
