Shuttler Ruthvika Shivani Gadde clinched the title after defeating Russia’s Evgeniya Kosetskaya 21-10 21-13 in the final of the women’s singles event at the Russian Open Grand Prix. The mixed doubles pair of N Sikki Reddy and Pranaav Jerry Chopra defeated Russia’s Vladimir Ivanov and Valeria Sorokina 21-17 21-19 to clinch the gold. In the men’s singles event, Siril Verma lost to top-seeded Zulfadli Zulkiffli of Malaysia 21-16 19-21 10-21) in the final.

Rajput finishes 10th in 3-Positions at World Cup
Veteran marksman Sanjeev Rajput ended his ISSF World Cup Finals campaign in the men’s Rifle 3 Positions event at the 10th place. Sanjeev was in with a chance to qualify for the final at the end of the first 60 shots in the kneeling and prone position but a poor standing series of 30 shots saw him bow out of contention. The shotgun competition, where India will be represented by Mairaj Ahmad Khan in the skeet, is scheduled to be held in Rome from October 10-16.

Sachin’s idea of 14-a-side in school cricket gets nod
Sachin Tendulkar’s idea of 14-a-side teams at school level has got the green signal from the sport’s governing body in Mumbai. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) recently passed a proposal allowing 14 members, instead of 11, to play in a team at the school level, a move aimed at popularising the game among children. The idea floated by the batting great will be implemented in Giles Shield and Harris Shield tournaments, both well-known inter-school tournaments.

Pacer Wood set to miss India tour with ankle injury
England bowler Mark Wood will have ankle surgery and is set to miss the tour of India that starts next month, the England and Wales Cricket Board said. The 26-year-old Durham pace bowler will require a third operation on his left ankle within a year after it was discovered that he had fractured a bone during a County Championship match against Surrey last month.
