The Tamil Nadu girls’ team retained its title with a comprehensive win over Kerala, while the Kerala boys went one step further from last year by beating Rajasthan in an engrossing final of the Junior Basketball National Championships on Monday.

While the Tamil Nadu girls beat Kerala 77-58, the Kerala boys, last year’s finalists, fought back after a slow start to beat Rajasthan 108-101. Shanazil was the top-scorer for Kerala with 29 points.

Last year’s champions Punjab bounced back from their semifinal defeat to Kerala on Sunday with a 97-44 win over Delhi to finish third. Rajan ended as the top-scorer with 39 points.

In the girls’ third-place match, Vaishnavi scored 53 points, her fourth 50-plus score in the tournament, to lead Uttar Pradesh to a 72-32 win over Karnataka. Meanwhile, the Punjab girls’ team finished sixth after losing 59-49 to Maharashtra. — TNS
