London, January 11
It could be merely some banter. It could be something serious, too. One could only guess at the moment, but there’s definitely something interesting brewing between Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff, the former England teammates.
England will play a Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra on Wednesday on their tour of Australia, and Pietersen, the sacked England batsman, has offered to play for Australia against his former team. On learning that former Australian cricketer Mike Hussey was injured, Pietersen tweeted he was available to take his place. Pietersen, discarded by England after their 5-0 Ashes defeat last winter, is currently playing for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League.
Former England captain Andrew Flintoff, who is playing for Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash, responded on twitter, saying that if Pietersen plays for the Prime Minister’s XI, they would need a turnstile at the bowlers end as as all the England bowlers would be queuing up to bowl at him, in order to dismiss him, obviously.
Not known to take anything lying down, pat came the reply from KP, saying he would not mind facing Flintoff at the moment as the latter was bowling backwards and he would bat with a toothpick. — Agencies
