Neeraj Goyat wins first bout after getting new promoters

Professional boxer Neeraj Goyat defeated Ernesto Cardona Sanchez in his first fight since signing up with Canada-based Lee Baxter Promotions for an annual contract worth Rs 1.5 crore. Goyat, who is the WBC Asia Pacific welterweight title-holder, defeated Sanchez Saturday in Edmonton, Canada, in a bout which did not have any title at stake. The Haryana boxer is the first Indian boxer to fetch a contract with the Canadian company, which has the likes of WBA-NABA welterweight champion Samuel Vargas on its roster. Vargas will be facing the celebrated Amir Khan in a fight on Saturday.

India U-19 team to play two friendlies in Serbia
The Indian U-19 football team will be travelling to Serbia to play two international friendlies against the Serbian U-19 side on September 13 and September 17. Both the matches are part of the exposure tour being organised by the All India Football Federation in coordination with SAI to provide the best possible preparation to the U-19 players for the I-League season and the U-19 AFC Championship qualification next year.

Tim Paine hopes to remain ODI captain
Australian skipper Tim Paine, who is under pressure in the wake of his poor batting record after being appointed as the captain, has said that he would try his best to continue to remain at his position. The 33-year-old further stated that even if he is stripped of the captaincy, he would continue to focus on Test cricket and try to do well in the format. “I am completely comfortable either way. I obviously would like to do it ... if I continue to do it, great, but if not, it’s a real opportunity for me to focus on Test cricket and do that as well as I can,” he said.
