Kyrgios fined $16,500 by ATP
Shanghai: Nick Kyrgios has been fined $16,500 by the ATP for breaching the ATP’s code of conduct during his defeat at the Shanghai Masters on Wednesday.
The Australian was beaten 6-3 6-1 by Mischa Zverev in a second-round match in which he put in a series of half-hearted serves and appeared to be walking off court before the German had returned the ball to him. Kyrgios also clashed with a spectator before being booed off the court after his defeat.
“Kyrgios received the onsite maximum fine of $10,000 for lack of best efforts, as well as $5,000 for verbal abuse of a spectator and $1500 for unsportsmanlike conduct,” an ATP spokesman said.
Djokovic says no talks on retaining Becker
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic said he hadn’t made any plans to keep Boris Becker as a coach next year as they appeared headed for a split on Thursday. Djokovic, speaking after cruising into the Shanghai Masters quarterfinals, said he had only made arrangements with the German for the rest of the season. Asked what would happen next year, Djokovic said: “We still haven’t talked about it.”
Djokovic skipped last week’s China Open with a wrist injury but there were few doubts about his form as he dismantled Vasek Pospisil 6-4 6-4. Andy Murray walloped Lucas Pouille 6-1 6-3. — Agencies
