Punjab junior shooters help India win 4 medals at Asian meet

The Indian shotgun squad picked up four medals including two individual bronze by Abhay Singh and Parinaaz Dhaliwal of Patiala in the junior men’s and women’s skeet competition of the IX Asian Shotgun Championship. India also clinched two silver medals in the men’s and women’s team events. Abhay won the bronze in the men’s skeet competition after reaching the final with a qualification round of 114. Parinaaz shot 39 in the final to finish behind the Chinese gold and silver winners Yashu Sun and Yikai Li, respectively, in the women’s skeet event. Patiala’s Asees Chhina finished fourth to miss out on a medal. The silver winning men’s team comprised of Ayush Rudraraju and Gurnihal Singh Garcha of Ludhiana besides Abhay while the women’s trio included Darshna Rathore in addition to Parinaaz and Asees.

Karnataka T20 team owner arrested in betting probe
Ashfaq Ali Thara, the owner of a Karnataka Premier League team Belagavi Panthers, was arrested in connection with an alleged international cricket betting scandal, police said. The police claimed to have busted an international cricket betting scandal with his arrest. Players of other teams have also been summoned for questioning.

Samples at athletics Worlds will be transferred abroad
Samples from athletes competing at the World Championships in Doha will be transferred to a laboratory abroad as part of what watchdog the Athletics Integrity Unit described today as an “unprecedented integrity programme”. The news came a day after the sport’s governing body, IAAF, extended a ban on Russia first imposed in November 2015 after a report commissioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency found evidence of widespread doping by the country’s athletes.

USA’s Dygert crushes Dutch duo to win time trial gold
American Chloe Dygert powered her way to gold in the time trial to end Dutch domination of the event at the UCI Road World Championships on a rainswept Yorkshire course today. The 22-year-old track specialist produced a relentless ride around an undulating 30.3km course and blasted over the finish line in Harrogate in 42 minutes 11.57 seconds. Defending world TT champion Annemiek van Vleuten was more than a minute off Dygert’s pace by the time she reached the halfway split, as was fellow Dutchwoman Anna van der Breggen. World and Olympics road race champion van der Breggen took her fourth silver medal in the event, while Van Vleuten had to settle for bronze.
