SC approves Rs 1.33 cr for Mumbai, Chennai Tests
New Delhi: The Supreme Court today allowed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to spend Rs 1.33 crore for conducting the last two Test matches of the ongoing India-England series. A Bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur passed the order on a plea by BCCI, whose funds were frozen by the apex court for not implementing the reforms directed by it. The Bench also allowed BCCI to draw funds for the ODI and the T20 series against England next month.

Caddie dies at Ladies European Tour event
The first round of the Dubai Ladies Masters golf tournament was suspended on Wednesday after the death of a caddie on the course. The caddie collapsed on the 13th fairway and was attended to by the on-site medical team before being taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead. “Everyone at the Ladies European Tour is extremely shocked and saddened by this sudden death,” Ladies European Tour CEO Ivan Khodabakhsh said. Round 1 will resume on Thursday and the tournament has been scaled back to 54 holes.

Kothari upsets Advani, Gilchrist storms into semis
Reigning national champion Sourav Kothari pulled off a big upset by shocking 10-time world champion Pankaj Advani in the quarterfinals of the IBSF World Billiards Championship here today. Kothari played his heart out to edge out Advani 1000-644. In another quarterfinal, multiple-time world champion Peter Gilchrist made his way into the semifinals by defeating the Englishman Robert Hall in an almost one-sided affair.

South Central Railway won the prestigious Bombay Gold Cup title by edging past Punjab National Bank 4-3 in a closely-contested final here today. The railway men, in their maiden appearance in the title contest, fought back twice from being in arrears to turn the tables on their more experienced rivals to take home the trophy.

MCC not in favour of Tendulkar’s suggestions
Sachin Tendulkar’s radical suggestion to use two pitches in the Ranji Trophy matches to help Indian players get used to different surfaces has not found favour with the MCC’s World Cricket Committee. “First class cricket is about playing competitive cricket, challenging yourself. It (playing on two pitches) will be like lessening the importance of first class cricket.
