The second edition of the World Kabaddi League (WKL) will be held in February next year. With a view to cutting down the costs, the organisers have scaled it down in terms of duration and venues.
Unlike the first edition which ran for three and half months, the League this time will be over in 45 days. Besides, it will be played out in various cities of Punjab. In the first edition, matches were played in three continents— in India, England and Canada.
The organisers splurged a lot of money on the League last year. They paid around Rs 11 crore to a private entertainment channel as production charges and a lot of money was spent in booking stadiums across three continents. Due to poor marketing, the WKL failed to attract crowd at any venue.
Sources revealed that three teams — Lahore Lions, Yo Yo Tigers and Punjab Thunders, owned by Vancouver-based Thind Group — may not participate in this edition.
