Karachi, December 28
Former Pakistan cricketers Mohammad Yousuf and Ramiz Raja had a stinging exchange of words during a TV show. They waded into each other, making personal remarks in a coarse language.
The verbal war took place over the return of tainted left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir, with Yousuf saying Raja didn’t know cricket, was a sifarashi player (undeserving), and good only to be a teacher. Yousuf went a step further and made some personal remarks against the former Test captain turned commentator. It drew a sharp response from Raja, who termed Yousuf a fake mullah who told lies and destroyed Pakistan cricket.
The exchange soon got viral, and the two came in for sharp criticism with many former players expressing disappointment over the language used by them. “I have played with both these players. They are looked upon with respect by the fans. It does not send out a right message,” said Pakistan’s former Test captain Rashid Latif.
Responding to remarks from Yousuf that Amir was the world’s best bowler and that someone had instigated Ali, Raja said neither Amir was the world’s best bowler, nor did anyone instigate Ali. And soon after this, the two lost their cool. — PTI
