A total of 231 coaches passed out of the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala, on Wednesday after pursuing diploma in sports coaching.
The coaches will now head for two-month internship programme in different parts of the country, on completion of which they will be awarded the diploma.
Chief guest Paramjit S Jaiswal, Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi National Law University, Patiala, gave away provisional certificates to the coaches across 17 disciplines.
He, however, reminded the passing out coaches that "per capita medals of the country are very low".
The NIS is an academic wing of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and organises diploma course in coaching every year.
Gautam Sharma of athletics was adjudged the overall topper in the boys' category while Samishka of wrestling was adjudged best female coach.
Sharma also topped in four subjects of sports sciences.
