9 sportspersons made DSP

The Punjab government today appointed nine international sportspersons, including seven hockey players, as Deputy Superintendent of Police under sports quota.
Hockey players Manpreet Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Sarvanjit Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Gurwinder Singh Chandi, Dharamvir Singh and Amandeep Kaur, and track and field athletes Mandeep Kaur and Khushbir Kaur were appointed as DSP in a function attended by Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal here today.
Manpreet, Akashdeep, Ramandeep, Dharamvir and Chandi were part of the teams that won the gold at the 2014 Asian Games and the silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Manpreet and Akashdeep were also part of the teams that won the bronze at last year’s World League Final and the historic silver medal at the Champions Trophy in June this year.
Sarvanjit was in the teams that won the silver at the 2010 CWG and the bronze at the 2010 Asian Games.
Amandeep was in the women’s hockey team that won the bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games.
Mandeep Kaur is a highly decorated athlete, having won two Asian Games (2010, 2014) and one Commonwealth Games (2010) gold medals in 4X400m relay.
Khushbir, 23, won the silver medal in the 20km race walk event at the 2014 Asian Games.
“It is a great honour to get appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police. I would like to thank the Punjab government for recognising our efforts in hockey,” said Manpreet, who flew down from Kolkata, where he was playing the Beighton Cup, for the ceremony.
Akashdeep said: “I am very happy as I had always wanted a job in Punjab.”
The state government also appointed 37 sportspersons as Sub-Inspector. The list includes international hockey players Harjot Singh, Harbir Singh and Jasjit Singh.
