Akarshit, Anuj move into 2nd round

Chandigarh, April 3 

Akarshit Mahajan registered a hard-fought win over Parveen Kumar to advance to the second round of the boys’ U-18 category in the CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament here today.  

Mahajan won the first set 6-4, but Kumar came back strongly to draw parity with a 4-6 win in the second set. 

In the decider, Mahajan maintained held his nerve to win the set 6-2. 

In another match, Anuj Mann beat Nishank Thakur in a sea-saw battle to enter the next level.

Mann won the opening set 6-4 but lost the track in the second set to go down 1-6. In the final set, Mann regained his composure and clinched the set 6-4 to move ahead.

Tushar Sharma, meanwhile, rallied from a set down to overcome Tushar Madan 6-7(4) 6-3 6-4. 

Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis (CHART) trainee Jitin Chetry won both of his U-18 and U-14 matches. 

Chetry defeated Aarav Singh Gill of CLTA 6-2 6-3 in the U-14 category before edging past Sahajpreet Bajwa 6-3 6-4 in the U-18 division. 

Another CHART trainee Sukhpreet Jhoje also won both of his matches. Jhoje defeated Keshav Dangi 6-0 6-1 in the boys’ U-14 category, while he humbled Pranav Chopra of CLTA in straight sets 6-3 6-2 to make it to the second round of the boys’ U-18 category.. 

Rakshit Dhankar beat Chirag Malhotra 6-4 6-4 to book a place in the boys’ U-14 second round.

Sarabjot Singh drubbed Ranveer Singh 6-1 6-1, while Rijul Bhatia dumped Debasish Sahoo 6-1, 6-2. Abhay Yuvraj Singh defeated Jivaj Chawla 6-3 6-3. Sidharth Goel registered a 6-1 6-2 win over Sarthak Gandhi.

In the girls’ U-14 category, Harnoor Sidhu of CLTA defeated Jyotsna Yadav 6-1 6-2, while Aaditaa Vashist got past Radhika Vasudeva 6-3 6-4. Milli Pandit beat Mehar Brar 6-2 6-1. 

Prachi Batra came back from a set down to beat Adity Singh 4-6 6-3 6-1, while Nimrat Atwal registered a 6-2 6-3 win against Catherin Bangu.

Suryanshi Tanwar and Pawandeep Kaur also moved into the second round. 

In the girls’ U-18 category, Arti Nayan beat Sanya Chadha 6-0 6-3, while Aishwary Andalkar got the better of Konika Dhull 6-1 6-0. 

The second round matches will be held on Tuesday.
