Allahabad team emerged at the top on the first day of Inter-School Northern Regional Swimming meet held at St George’s College here today. Brother Tomy Verghese inaugurated the championship.
In junior division (girls) 50-m free style, Shreya Kumar from St Mary Convent Inter College, Allahabad, stood first, Kritika Saraswat from Girls High School and College Elgin Road Allahabad stood second while Ishita Pandey from CMS Lucknow stood third. In 50-m breaststroke, Ishita from CMS Lucknow stood first while Krishna Singh from Seth MR Jaipuria School second and Ananya Gupta from GHS College Allahabad stood third. In 100-m, Gulnar Mishra from St Mary’s Convent Inter College Allahabad stood first, Ananya Shukla from CMS Hardoi Lucknow stood second and Priyanka Lal from CMS LDA Colony Kanpur road, Lucknow, third.
In senior division 50-m freestyle, Anandita Singh from Seth Jaipuria School stood first, Shreya Kushal from Girls High School and College Allahbad stood second and Medha Mathur from CMS Rajendar Nagar Lucknow stood third.
100-m butterfly, 50-m breaststroke and backstroke events were also held on the occasion. The judges for the event were Raj Kumar, senior vice president, Swimming Federation of India, Sushil Kumar, international referee, Ajay Kumar, Bupesh Chaudhry and Rajiv Rohatagi, all national-level referees. Sports secretary Brother Christu, SK Aley, Sanjay Singh, Anand Thapa, John Nanda, Naushad, Rajesh Victor, Ankur, Arvind Panwar, Rupendar Bajwa and Rohan Chamoli were also present.
