Brilliant show by bowlers of Amritsar lead the team to victory in the final match of the Punjab Inter-District Cricket (U-23) Championship for Umesh Kumar Trophy. They defeated Patiala by 154 runs. Both teams scored 250 runs in the first innings.

Amritsar posted 263 runs in second the innings. Left arm spinner Karan Kaila (5 for 76) and off spinner Sukhwinder Singh (5 for 92) restricted Amritsar to 263 runs. While chasing, Patiala lost top scorer of the first innings Harinder Singh quickly as he was caught by Kamal Passi off Lovepreet Singh without scoring a single run. Amarbir Singh was next to go after he was caught by Satbir Singh off Kamal Passi reducing Patiala to 16 for 2 in 4.5 overs. Prabhjot Singh and Kanwarpal Singh added 37 runs for the third wicket before Prabhjot was trapped in front by left arm spinner Vinay Choudhary for 27 off 57 balls inclusive of 4 boundaries. Off spinner Ashwani scalped Karan Kaila (1 run), Manveer Singh (0 run) and Arun Bharti (0-run) and pushed Patiala to corner at 64 for 6 in 33.5 overs.

Meanwhile, Kanwar Pal Singh completed his steady half century off 134 balls inclusive of 5 boundaries and 2 sixes before being caught by Navneet Singh. Patiala’s chase finally ended at 109 runs when Sukhwinder Singh was caught and bowled by Vinay Choudhary without opening his account.

Amritsar claimed the glittering trophy with a win of 154 runs. For Amritsar, Ashwani (5 for 57) and Vinay Choudhary (3 for 20) shared the spoils. The winners along with the glittering trophy received a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh.
