Chahat swims to gold, Sahil sets record

Chandigarh, October 26 

City swimmer Chahat Arora clocked 2.53.75s to win the 200m breaststroke gold in the ongoing All India Inter-University Aquatics Championship at the Panjab University Campus here today.

Udeshi Rutuja (2.57.69) of University of Mumbai finished second, while Poorva Shetya (3.00.86s) of Jain University ended in third place. 

In the men's category, Panjab University's Jasahndeep Singh clinched the gold with 2.25.93s, while Emil Robin Singh of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (2.29.31s) won silver. PU's Vikrant (2.32.36s) finished third.

In the men's 400m individual medley, Emil (4.45.37s) claimed the top spot, followed by Sethumanickavel (4.50.04s) and Rajesh R (4.57.06s). Meenakshi (5.23.58s) clinched gold in the women's category. 

Shrishti Nag (5.36.24s) won silver, while Mungekar Simran (5.41.78s) had to content with bronze. 

In the men's 200m butterfly, Avinash M Visvesvaraya of Technical University Karnataka clocked 2.10.25s to win gold. Bhanvadia Raj Sanjay Veer (2.15.03s) of South Gujarat University claimed silver, while Rahul Sharma (2.16.33s) of University of Delhi bagged bronze. 

Shrishti Nag (2.29.01s) of Bilaspur University topped the women's category. She was followed by Buchade Aakansha (02.30.61s) of Savitribai Phule Pune University. Mungekar Simran (2.33.19s) from University of Mumbai ended in third place.  

Sahil Chopra of Punjabi University, Patiala, meanwhile, set a new meet record to win the men's 50m freestyle gold. He completed the race in 00.23.14s. 

Prabhu Viraj (00.24.06s) of University of Mumbai won silver, while Aman Ghai (00.24.13s) of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, bagged bronze. 

Panjab University, meanwhile, registered its first win in water polo today. The hosts drubbed CRS University, Jind, 10-1 to open the account. 

University of Kerala beat Calicut University 11-5, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, overcame SGBA University, Maravati, 15-5, while Calcutta University humbled CDL University, Sirsa, 14-3.
