Channpreet leads GGI, Khanna, to title win

The Gulzar Group of Institutes (GGI), Khanna, defeated defending champions Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh, 1-0 in the final of the Inter-University 7-A Side Soccer Championship for Menat Chitkara University, Baddi, HP.

Channpreet Singh from GGI scored the lone goal. More than 10 universities, including Chandigarh University, HP University Shimla, Shoolini University-HP, MM University-Ambala, KU-Kurukshetra, LPU, Agarsen University, Rayat and Bahra University, Amity University,SD College and Sharda University, participated in the event.

In one of the semifinals, the winners defeated Chitkara University, Punjab (A), 2-0.

The teams were awarded Rs 12,000 by Dr Ashok K Chitkara, Chancellor of Chitkara University.

Ecstatic Captain Paominlien Kipgen said: “It will be hard for anyone to guess the pressure that I felt when I was about to take the final shot. The noise from crowd was deafening and expectations of my teammates were pressing. But, Iam happy that I pulled it through.”

Executive Director of the university Gurkirat Singh congratulated the members and coach of the winning team.

While encouraging the students, he said sports was an integral part of life. “It teaches an individual to work in a team, have a strong will power and be patient and all others ethics which are important to live a healthy life,” Singh added. He urged the students to play games as if it was their last game.
