City cricket team in driver’s seat

Chandigarh, June 18
Chandigarh were in the driver’s seat by accumulating 254 runs for 5 in their first innings during the first semifinal match against hosts Patiala at the Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium in Patiala today.
Opting to bat first, Chandigarh got off to a poor start by losing its first wicket with four runs on the board. Team opener and skipper Bhagmender was caught by Harpreet off Sanveer for four. Then Abhinav Srivastav was trapped in front by Ikjot Singh for four.
Jagjit Singh (two), Lakshay Rakhra (0) and Jasnoor Singh Pannu (26) were back in the pavilion with the team tottering at 49 runs for 5 in 25.1 overs.
Thereafter, Raman Bishnoi (72*) and Pardeep Yadav (127*) got together to reconstruct Chandigarh innings by adding 205 runs together. The team was in a comfortable position at 254 for 5 in 100 overs at the close of first day’s play.
For Patiala, Mayank Markande took 3 for 59.
