Cricket: Meerut beat Haryana by 214 runs

Wood Hills, Meerut, registered a 214-run win over Haryana today in the ongoing Haridwar Cricket League T-20 Tournament, being played at Bhalla Inter College Outdoor Stadium.

Winning the toss against the Haryana team, batting duo of Pintu and Ankur of Wood Hills, Meerut, scored centuries each to set a target of 279 runs in the stipulated 20 overs.

Pintu (124) scored 13 sixes and seven fours, while Ankur’s (119) innings included five sixes and 12 fours.

Chasing the target, the Haryana team’s opening batsmen and middle order returned to the pavilion before the 50-run mark.

Tight bowling and agile fielding of the Will Hoods players proved quite tough for Haryana batsmen and eventually, the whole team got bundled out for 59 runs.

For the bowling side, Rahat was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets in four overs while, Pintu, for his blistering century knock, was adjudged the man of the match.

In the other match of the day, Doon Tigers defeated the Shivalik Nagar team by 19 runs.

Playing first, Doon Tigers, with the help of brisk knocks by Amar (57), Pratap (42) and Ali (42), scored 183 runs in the stipulated 20 overs.

In reply, despite useful contribution from middle order batsmen, the Shivalik Nagar team could only score 164 runs. Amar was named the man of the match for his half century.
