Dalwinder beats Faisal, enters final

Chandigarh, October 20

Second seed Dalwinder Singh rallied from a set down to beat Rajasthan's Faisal Qamar and book a place in the men's final in the ongoing The Tribune CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) and State Championships at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here today.

Dalwinder lost the first set 4-6, but bounced back to clinch the second set 6-2. In the decider, both players held their serve till 3-3. Thereafter, Dalwinder used his big serve to scamper home 6-3. 

The Punjab racqueter will play Tamil Nadu's VM Ranjeet for the title. Ranjeet entered the final after being awarded a walkover against Paramveer Singh Bajwa.

In the women's singles semifinals, second seed Smriti Punyani of Delhi drubbed Himani Mor 6-2 6-3 to set the title clash with Neeru Rapriya, who overcame Uttar Pradesh's Kaavya Sawhney in a marathon three setter.

Neeru pocketed the first set 6-1, but lost the second set 6-7(2). She, however, kept her poise to oust Kavya, winning the decider 6-1.

CHART trainee Shashikant Rajput, meanwhile, overcame Yuvraj Singh Kooka in a sea-saw battle to ensure himself a spot in the final. The top seed won 6-2 3-6 6-2. 

He will face another CHART trainee Naresh Badgujar in the final. Naresh beat Udit Kamboj 7-6(4) 6-2. 

In the girls' U-16 semifinals, Srishti Dhir, after losing the first, rallied to beat Priyanka Jakhar 1-6 7-6(4) 6-1.

Princy Panchal registered 6-3 4-6 6-3 win over Simran Pritam to move into the final.

Top seed pair of Vilasier Khate and Ranjeet Singh overcame Mohit Bhardwaj and Faisal Qamar 3-6 6-4 10-8 to book a berth in the men's doubles final. The duo will play Ishaqe Iqbal and Saurvar Sukul for the title. 

Iqbal and Saurvar got a walkover from Paramveer and Param Pun. Final matches in all categories will be played tomorrow.
