Eight academy teams to take part in kabaddi cup

Ludhiana, February 14

Eight academy teams will be vying for top honours in the Annual Kabaddi Cup Tournament to be held at Lohara village near here on February 26 and 27.

Hardyal Singh Dhillon, a spokesperson of Sant Ishar Dass Sports Club, said this tournament was being organised in association with Gurdwara Committee, Lohara, and residents of the village and its surrounding areas.

Prominent teams which have confirmed their participation include those recognised by the Punjab Kabaddi Clubs Association. These are Harjeet Brar Academy of Patto Heera, Chardi Kalan Academy of Jalandhar, Ambi and Aman Academy of Moga, Dasmesh Academy of Kalakh, Sant Ishar Singh Kabaddi Academy of Rara Sahib, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Academy of Samrala, Harjeet Talwar Academy of Jagraon and Mauli Academy of Baidvan.

On the opening day, matches in the below-65kg and 75kg groups would be played besides competition in volleyball. The winners (academies) will fetch cash prize of Rs 1lakh and the runners-up will pocket Rs 75,000.

Similarly, the winners in the below-75kg weight category will be given cash prize of Rs 21,000, while the team finishing at the second place will receive a cash prize of Rs 16,000. The winners and runners-up in the below-65kg section will get Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively. The victorious team in volleyball will get cash prize of Rs 7,100, whereas the second position holders will be richer by Rs 5,100. MLAs Balwinder Singh Bains and Simarjit Singh Bains will be the guests of honour on the final day.
