Institutions top the chart on Day 1

The Institutions team defeated North-East Zone by 3-0 in the opening game of the 16th All-India Inter-Zonal Carrom Championship that commenced at the skating rink hall of Sector 10 here today. In the three-day event, teams from West Zone, South Zone, East Zone, North East Zone, North Zone and a separate team of Institutions, consisting of six players, are taking part.

Srinivas of Institutions defeated Rehaul of North East by 20-08 and 25-12 while Md Gurfan of Institutions defeated LN Ganthoiba of North East by 25-06 and 25-13. In the doubles match, pair of RM Sankara and Ramesh Babu of Institutions defeated Sonu Choudhary and Rittupan of North East by 25-24 and 25-11. While in their second league match, Institutions again overpowered their rivals North Zone by 3-0 Srinivas defeated Md Danish of North by 25-15 and 20-12, Riyaz beat Md Hassan of North Zone by 20-18 and 25-13 while pair of RM Sankara and Ramesh Babu overpowered Md Salman and Md Imran by 25-04 and 25-10.

Meanwhile, in the opening match of the girls’ category, Institutions got the better of North East Zone by 3-0 with Aisha Mohammad registering a 21-13 and 25-00 over Debajani Tamuly of North East. In other two games, Rashmi Kumari defeated Tutu Moni Saikia of North East by 25-00 and 25-00 while Venitaa and Deepika Sinha beat Sharmila Borah and Himakshi by 24-10 and 24-10.
