The sixth World Cup Kabaddi (WCK)-2016 will be organised at various venues in 14 districts from November 3 to 17.
The opening ceremony of World Cup Kabaddi would be held at Roopnagar and the closing ceremony would be held at Jalalabad in Fazilka.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, gave his nod to the schedule of fortnight-long sporting extravaganza.
“Teams from 14 nations in the men’s and women’s section would compete for the title. The winner in the men’s category would get Rs 2 crore, followed by Rs 1 crore to the runners-up.
In the women’s category, the winning team would get Rs 1 crore and the runners-up will be awarded Rs 51 lakhs. The total prize money of Rs 7 crore would be up for grabs in this mega event,” Badal said. He instructed the officials to ensure elaborate security arrangements, transportation and accommodation for the participating teams.
A sum of Rs 40 lakhs has been earmarked for dope tests and the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) to conduct random tests during the tournament. An anti-doping committee has also been formed. Badal said the successful organization of five editions of the World Cup Kabbadi has encouraged the organization of kabbadi leagues at the national and international level.
