Manik Sharma and Kanav Dhingra survived a scare in the boys’ U-17 group on the opening day of the Junior Ludhiana District Badminton Championship, organised by the District Badminton Association, Ludhiana, at Shastri Hall near the Guru Nanak Stadium here today.
Manik won the first set 21-16 but Shivay Thapar made a comeback, winning the second game 25-23. In the decider, Manik gained early lead and managed to remain in the game till the end and won it 21-14.
In another absorbing encounter, Kanav Dhingra, after some hiccups, overpowered his spirited opponent Jatin Verma in a three setter. Kanav wrapped up the opening set at 21-18 but lost the next to Jatin 18-21. he bounced back to win the third set 21-14 (2-1).
