Krishan, Ashutosh in final qualifying round

Haryana's Krishan Hooda overcame Lakshay Gupta 7-6(2) 6-4 to enter the final qualifying round of the ITTF Juniors Circuit Tennis Tournament on the opening day of the championship at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here today. 

A Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis (CHART) trainee, Hooda was lagging 2-5 in the opening set before he made a come back to win the set in the tie-break, 7-6(2). 

In the second set, Hooda was leading 5-2 but Gupta won the next two games to make it 4-5. Hooda, however, broke Lakshay's serve again in the 10th game to close the set 6-4.

In another second round match, third seed Sumit Pal Singh blanked Kanishk Pal 6-0 6-0. Ashutosh Tiwari overcame Prabhav Agarwal 7-5 1-6 6-4, while R Bollipalli drubbed Sarvesh Maria 6-0 6-3.

Sagar Bains registered a 6-1 6-0 win over Rudraksh Rishi Mitra to enter the final qualifying round.

In the girls' first round, Shreya Tatavarthy beat Kaavya Sawhney 7-5 7-5, while Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa humbled Konika Dhull 6-0 6-1. Radhika Yadav got the better of Ishika Yadav 6-1 6-0. 

Ishita Singh had an easy outing against Tanya Palta, winning 6-1 6-2, while Sanjeevani Patil posted a 6-3 7-5 win over Mrunmayee Bhagwat. Richa Chougule beat Saisha Khanna 6-3 6-2.

Final qualifying round matches will be played from 11:00 am at the CLTA Complex on Sunday.
