Mohali end on top against City

Dhanraj Gautam hit successive centuries as visitors Mohali, on the basis of their first innings lead, garnered three points against Chandigarh to top Pool A, in the ongoing U-16 ML Markan Trophy here today.
On the third and final day of the match at Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, Mohali closed the day at 152/6 with Gautam unbeaten on 102.
The youngster had earlier scored a sedate 148 in the first innings to help Mohali score a challenging 367.
Earlier, resuming the day at 185/6, Chandigarh were bowled out for 265 runs.
Akshit Rana added 28 runs to his overnight total of 52 before making long walk back to the pavilion, while Manav was dismissed for 74 runs. He could only manage eight runs on the third morning of the match. The duo added 109 runs for the seventh wicket.
For Mohali, Harsdeep claimed 5/118, while Pranav returned with figures of 4/71.
Jalandhar in semis
Hosts Jalandhar earned three points against Faridkot at the Burlton Park to book a place in the semifinals.
The side managed six points in three games to finish in second place behind table toppers Patiala in pool B.
Chasing Faridkot’s first innings total of 272, Jalandhar rode on a fine 148 by Aditya Partap Singh to score 312 runs off 106.4 overs. Aditya hit 21 boundaries and a six during his stay in the middle.
For the visitors, Simranjeet Singh claimed 6/87, while Harsimran Singh took 3/45.
Meanwhile, Faridkot were struggling at 95/8 in their second innings when the umpires decided on the match.
Kritik returned bagged 6/27, while Pratham Hans grabbed 2/19 for the hosts.
3 points for Amritsar
At Gandhi Grounds in Amritsar, the hosts, powered by Ritik’s fifer, reduced Gurdaspur to 156/6 after imposing a follow on to get three points from the match.
Gurdaspur, while chasing Amritsar’s first innings total of 448/8, were all-out for 197 in their first essay.
Semifinals line-up
The semifinal matches will be played from May 13 to 17. In the first semifinal, Mohali will host Jalandhar while in the second semifinal, hosts Patiala will meet Chandigarh.
