Mohali, January 13
Twenty-four-year-old Lekhraj Chaudhary, a bodybuilder from Mohali, had to literally sweat it out before being named the strongest man of India.
The bodybuilder was awarded the title during the JERAI Strong Man of India championship held in Mumbai from January 8 to 10. Lekhraj emerged the winner from among 100 participants, who had come from all over the country.
Earlier in 2015, he won a gold medal in the Junior National Powerlifting Championship and Senior National Powerlifting Championship held at Kapurthala.
“I am happy to have won the recent championship. The feat will motivate me to prepare well for the upcoming competitions. I am looking ahead to appear in the World Strongest Man Championship for which I am training to the best of my ability,” said Lekhraj.
Known as the ‘young beast’, Chaudhary has also won a gold medal in the national bench press and dead lift championship held in Sonipat.
To maintain his strength, he consumes 60 eggs, one kg of chicken, a dozen bananas, a jug of juice and two litres of milk daily, apart from regular food intake.
“My coach Hardeep Malli is paying good attention in shaping up my career. With his help, I am also making efforts for appearing in the Asia Best Bodybuilder Championship,” claimed Lekhraj, who trains at Malli Shape and Fitness Centre, Mohali.
“Lekhraj is dedicated and hardworking. There are no doubts that he is a powerful man and most importantly, dedicated towards his aim. He spends almost five hours on a daily basis in shaping his body while his Sundays include work to improve his stamina,” said Malli.
