The city will witness the fourth edition of the National Chandigarh Cyclothon on December 21.
The event will comprise both competitive race and non-competitive cycle rides. In the non-competitive category, the organisers will conduct a seven-km fun ride for schoolchildren in the age group of eight to 18 years, a seven-km “maza” ride for people from all age groups and another seven-km corporate ride for business executives.
The national competitive race will witness as many as 100 professional cyclists covering a distance of 57.5 kilometres. A total amount of Rs three lakhs will be distributed among the top 10 position holders.
Kashish Mittal, Director Tourism, UT, said: “The cyclothon will be conducted in a professional manner. The participants will be provided proper medical facilities and there will be marshals to guide them.”
Mittal said the participants will be given chest numbers and the route map during an expo at the Sector 10 Leisure Valley on December 19 and 20. The expo will be held from 10am to 8pm.
All the races -- competitive and non-competitive -- will be flagged off from Jan Marg in Sector 10 and will end at the same point. The cyclothon is be being organised by Starbizz India along with the Cycling Federation of India, Sports Authority of India and UT Sports Department in collaboration with Chandigarh Tourism. The interested participants can download the registration forms from the website www.chandigarhcyclothon.com or submit a query at starbizzindia@gmail.com or sportz13@hotmail.com by December 18.
