Nimrat Kaur defeated Sohani Makkar in a hard fought contest to enter the girls' U-16 quarters in the AITA-STA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Championship at the Chandigarh Club Complex, here today.
Nimrat after losing the first in a tie breaker made a little work of her opponent in the next two sets to win the match 6-7(9) 6-1 6-2.
Sehajveer Bandal had an easy outing against Jyotsana Yadav, winning the match 6-0 6-1, while Lagan Bidhan thumped Vrindha Sharma 6-3 6-3.
In the U-14 boys' pre-quarterfinals, Sehaj Naangal overcame Gurustat Singh in straight sets 6-2 6-3. Anirudh Singh registered a 6-1 6-3 win over Gurjosh Singh while Shrenik Bhalla moved to the quarterfinals after beating Mahishmat Kumar 6-1 6-1.
Divyanshu, meanwhile, had to struggle against Sehaj Naangal in boys' U-16 category. After losing the opening set 1-6, Divyanshu fought back to win the next two (6-4 6-2) to confirm a berth in the quarterfinals.
In another three-setter, Shrenik Bhalla defeated Nishank Thakur 4-6 6-1 6-0.
Uddayvir had an easy match against Manvir Sohi as he sailed into the quarterfinals with a 6-2 6-3 win. Rudra Kapoor overwhelmed Parveen Kumar 6-2 6-0.
In the girls' U-14 segment, Srishti Dhir defeated Mehar Kohli 6-1 7-5 while Aaditaa Vashisht beat Jyotsana Yadav 6-0 6-2.
