Members of the Sutlej Club are rattled after outsiders were “allowed” to enjoy the gymnasium and swimming pool facility for merely Rs 6,800 for a season.
The club members complained that a huge number of outsiders had taken the seasonal gym membership and were currently enjoying the club facilities like other regular members.
A disgruntled club member said: “It has not remained the same officers’ club that it once used to be. Outsiders get an access through gym membership and soon begin to enjoy the club facilities. One can often spot them abusing while taking drinks. Regular members fear losing a membership while creating a scene, but why would an outsider bother?”
The members said they had submitted written representations to stop the menace, but nothing happened.
Old time club members lament that they spend lakhs of rupees for these facilities but it were the non-members who have been enjoying the luxuries for a paltry amount.
They said the seasonal membership for availing gym and swimming pool facilities have been allowed without checking the profile of people.
“I have stopped going to the club. What’s the use? The gym and swimming pool remains crowded all time. I go to relax not to jostle around with people,” said a club member.
Ruchi Bawa, General Secretary of the club, said: “Ever since we have taken the charge we are putting restriction on such facilities. This service has only been extended to the immediate family member and close friends of the club member and that too has been allowed after thorough screening process.”
