Pawandeep storms into quarters

Pawandeep Kaur blanked Samaira Pahwa 6-0 6-0 to book a place in the girls’ U-14 quarterfinals in the ongoing STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here today.

Harmandeep Kaur overcame Yashika Sharma in a marathon three-setter to advance to the next round.  

Harmandeep won the opening set 6-3, but a resilient Yashika came back to draw level with a 7-5 win in the second set. In the decider, both players fought hard to stay in contention for the next round. However, it was Harmandeep to held her nerve in a tense tie-break to clinch the set 7-6(5).

Riya Kaushik dumped Ishanvi Soni 6-0 6-0, while Catherine Bhangu beat Vanya Arora 6-1 6-0. Mrinalini Sharma registered a 6-3 7-5 win over Anahat Pannu. 

Meher Kaur drubbed Trimanpreet Kaur 6-0 6-0, while Aditi Singh got the better of Bhumi Kakkar 6-0 6-4 to make it the last to the last-eight stage of the championship.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ U-14 first round, Sarbhjot defeated Jaskaran 6-3 6-3, while Parth Geol humbled Arav Joshi 6-3 6-4. Samarvir Singh registered a 6-0 6-2 win against Kesav. 

Sukhpreet got the better of Aayush Raj 6-1 6-0, while Mahismat Kumar beat Aryan Arora 6-4 6-2 to enter the second round. 

Sarabjot Singh defeated Akash Srinivasan 6-1 6-4 to make place in the boys’ U-16 second round.
