Punjab karate players reign supreme

Ludhiana, September 25
Players from Ludhiana comprising Punjab contingent played a pivotal role in their teams’ outstanding performance to emerge as winners in the National Karate Championship held at Warangal in Telengana recently.
Punjab team reined supreme clinching as many as 33 medals including 22 gold medals in this championship.
Around 1200 participants drawn from over fifteen states took part in the event and players from Punjab stamped their class to lift the overall trophy.
Young participants of Punjab gave a scintillating performance to steal the show. Players included budding karatekas from Bal Bharti Public School, Dugri, besides Guru Gobind Singh Public School, Daad; MGM Public School, Dugri; Jatendra Green Field School, Sudhar and Krishan Convent School, Daba-Lohara road, Ludhiana.
Ashok Chohan, general secretary, Ludhiana District Karate-Do Association who accompanied the team as technical director said players from Ludhiana who finished among medal winners include Shashwat Gupta, Soham Chouhan, Jasraj Singh, Rhythm Garg, Jodh Iqbal Singh, Gurjas Kaira, Hari Singh Hunjan, Rehan Babu, Paramraj, Priyam Kaira, Akhilesh Dhiman, Jaskaran Singh Tuli, Simran Chauhan, Srishti Saggar, Seerat Suniyar, Sparsh Kaul, Sehaj Paul Singh, Kananveer Kaushal, Ishnavi Kaushal, Jaskaran Singh, Amanveer Singh, Jashanpreet Singh, Jasman Singh, Jagpal Singh, Gurjashan Singh, Bharat Sharma, Manpreet Kaur, Damanpreet Kaur, Kawardeep Singh, Bhavesh Sabharwal and Chunanda Chohan.
Gold medal winners at Warangal have been selected for the International Karate Tournament to be held at Colombo in Sri Lanka next month, Chohan said. Young karatekas called on Sat Pal Singh, District Sports Officer, Ludhiana.
The DSO appreciated their performance and wished them more success in the upcoming championship.
