Ramanjot Kaur among girls and Arshdeep Singh among boys proved their supremacy and were declared the best athletes in the ninth annual athletics meet of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) held today. The overall trophy was won by the College of Veterinary Sciences.
Ramanjot Kaur clinched four titles (200m, 400m 800m and 1,500m races) while Arshdeep Singh annexed five titles (110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, broad jump, 200m and 400m races) to stamp their superiority and were adjudged the best.
Dr AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, inaugurated the meet in which students of the College of Veterinary Sciences, College of Dairy Sciences and Technology and College of Fisheries, besides GADVASU-affiliated colleges, Veterinary Polytechnic, Kaljharani (Bathinda), Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar, took part in various track and field events.
He appreciated the various committee members’ efforts in conducting the successful meet and wished the participants good luck. Senior retiree alumni members of the varsity also attended the meet. Gaurav Sharma, a national-level athlete, took oath on behalf of the participants.
Dr Naresh Kumar Arora, Inspector General of Police, PAP, Jalandhar, was the chief guest at the prize distribution function. He said sports improved the health and confidence of students.
The faculty members of the PAU, GADVASU, and students were there to encourage the participants. Dr SPS Sangha, Director, Students Welfare, GADASU, proposed the vote of thanks.
The main attraction of the concluding function was an equestrian show by varsity students. Giddha performers added colour of folk and culture to the event.
