Rishabh-Calvin win doubles title

Chandigarh, March 31

Rishabh Sharda and Calvin Golmei defeated Abhimanyu Rozra and Neeraj Yashpaul in straights sets (6-4, 6-0) to win the boys U-18 doubles final. CLTA trainees Bhavesh Aggarwal and Yuvraj Kooka defeated Aditya and Udit Kamboj 6-4, 6-2 to win the boys U-16 doubles title of the CLTA-AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament at the CLTA Tennis Stadium Complex, Sector 10.

Shashikant Rajput defeated his practice partner Bhupender Dahiya in straight sets 6-3, 5-1, while Neeraj Yashpaul defeated CHART trainee Krishan Hooda 6-4, 6-4 to move into the finals of the boys U-16 category 

Rajput won the first set 6-3 but Dahiya bounced back in the second set to take 5-1 lead. Rajput fought back and drew level at 5-5. Rajput closed out the second set and match in the tie-break 7-6(1).

In the boys U-18 category, Rajput upset topseed Sagar Bains in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. CLTA trainee and second seed Rishabh Sharda defeated Neeraj Yashpaul in an easy match (6-1, 6-1).

In the girls U-16 category, Alisha Menon defeated Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa 7-5, 6-4. In another semifinal, Kavya Sawhney defeated Bela Tamhankar 6-0, 6-3. 

CLTA trainee Prinkle Singh (U-18) moved into the girls singles and doubles final as well. Singh defeated Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to move into the finals. In the second semifinal, Trisha Vinod defeated Kavya Sawhney 6-4, 7-6(3). 

In the doubles semifinals, Singh combined with Vriti Panwar to beat Prabhneet Saraon and Khushbeen Kaur 6-1, 6-2.

The final matches will be played tomorrow at the CLTA Tennis Stadium Complex.
