SelaQui International School, Dehradun, has launched Arjuna Tennis Programme in collaboration with the Mahesh Bhupathi Tennis Academy (MBTA) to nurture tennis talent in Dehradun and adjoining areas.
Gaurav Natekar, former Davis Cup player and Arjuna awardee, emphasised the need to have a robust and scientific training programme for students interested in making a professional career in tennis.
Rashid Sharfuddin, headmaster of SelaQui International School, said the school was the only residential school in the country with five all-weather tennis courts. He was committed to providing the best facilities to budding tennis players of the school and of Dehradun. Sharfuddin expressed hope that in the coming years, the programme would throw up some ranked players in the country.
Anshul Pathak, director of the school, emphasised the need of catching talent young and putting them through a rigorous process to make them successful sportspersons.
Gaurav Natekar said the MBTA and SelaQui would hold the first week-long tennis clinic in Dehradun in January where students can participate and learn the finer nuances of the game from experienced coaches of the MBTA.
