Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis (CHART) trainee Simran Pritam upset 6th seed Shrishti Dhir to sail into the quarterfinals (under-16) in the St Stephen’s School-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) tennis tournament at the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association in Sector 10 today.
The other CHART and CLTA trainees who moved into the quarterfinals are Arti Nayan, Priyanka Jakhar and Adity Dogra.
In boys U-16 category, top seed Calvin Golmei defeated CLTA trainee Robin Sharma in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to move into quarterfinals.
Earlier, in the first set, Simran faced tough contest from her opponent 7-6 (5). In the second set, Simran got 3-0 lead and after that Shrishti Dhir conceded the match due to shoulder injury.
In other matches of U-16 boys group, CLTA trainee second seed Rishabh Sharda had an easy victory over Navraj Singh Brar 6-1, 6-0.
CHART trainees Shashikant Rajput and Naresh Badgujar had easy wins over Vishal Verma and another CHART trainee Bhupender Dahiya, respectively, at an identical score of 6-0, 6-1.
