State shooters come back with 22 medals from national championship

Uttarakhand players won 22 medals in the 59th National Shooting Championship, held from December 1 to 15 in New Delhi. Narayan Singh Rana, president of the Uttaranchal State Rifle Association, stated this while addressing mediapersons here today.

Rana said the state players won three gold, six silver and 13 bronze medals in the championship. Prerna Gupta, Mamta, Hemlata Semwal, Manya Aggarwal, Lokpal Singh, Subash Rana, Arun Singh, Kartik Sharma, Bhavesh, Samarjeet, Shivam, Varun and Akshay were some of the medal winners from Uttarakhand.

The championship was organised by Uttarakhand at Dr Karadi Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi. Around 4,000 players of national and international levels participated in the tournament. Players such as Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang and personnel of the armed forces also participated in the championship.

“It is a matter of pride to organise the national event but due to the requirements of advanced technologies, New Delhi was selected as the venue for the event. We are trying to develop national-level facilities in our state too,” he added.
