Students show zeal and grit at sports day

Dehradun: The annual sports day of the Kendriya Vidyalaya, FRI, was held here on Monday.

Mukesh Rawat, International Athletic Champion, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He is presently working with the Uttarakhand Police and had brought laurels for his department and the state by winning a gold medal at the World Police Games-2013, held at Ireland. In 2015, he won three gold medals in World Police Athletics Games, held at Virginia, USA. 

The event began with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries. This was followed by a performance on a Nepali folk song by tiny tots. The sports flag of the school was hoisted by the dignitaries, followed by a march past by students carrying banners of 'clean and green' under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Various sports events, such as balloon bursting, zigzag race, three legged race, sipping race, slow cycle race, 100-m race, 4X100 relay race for primary, junior section, secondary section and senior secondary section were organised.

In the 100-m race for senior boys, Mohan Rawat got the first position, Ankit Karki stood second and Puneet Prakash Arya bagged the third position. In the girls' 100-m race, Jaya came first, Sangeeta Rathore retained the second spot and Ashna secured the third place.

In the secondary section, Akash Sen got the first position in 100-m race and Udit Chauhan bagged the second spot. 

For the primary section, events such as skipping race, shoe socks race, three legged race, zigzag race and 100-m race were organised and students participated enthusiastically. Ashoka House became the overall champion, followed by Raman House. Shivaji House bagged the third position and Tagore House stood fourth.

Pritam Kumar Bind, former International player and an employee of ONGC, honoured the winning students as the guest of honour. Principal Dr Charu Sharma highlighted the achievements of the school in various fields.— TNS
