Chandigarh, December 25
Yishu Sharma of Moti Ram Arya Senior Secondary School, Sector 27, and Tuba Sehar of St. Stephen’s School, Sector 45, won the boys’ and girls’ junior singles title, respectively, in the 17th Raj Kumar Babuta Memorial Prize Money Carrom Ranking Tournament at St. Stephen’s School Sector 45.
Sahil Thakur of St. Joseph Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, and Maryam Khan of Government Model School, Sector 46, also won the boys’ and girls’ sub-junior titles, respectively.
Sharma defeated Sahil Thakur 17-7 19-15 to win the boys’ junior final. In the semifinals, Thakur defeated Mihir Yadav 14-05 11-17 12-04 while Sharma overpowered Chirag C 21-5 12-14 17-04.
Sehar defeated Nidhi Gupta of St. Mary’s School, Sector 46, in a closely contested match 03-21 17-16 14-10 to win the girls’ final. Sehar defeated Komal Gupta 21-0 21-1 in the semifinals while Gupta defeated Maryam Khan 17-10 18-07 in the second match.
In the boys’ sub-junior final, Sahil Thakur thrashed Aryan Singh Dhaka 9-5 12-8 while Maryam Khan beat Manroop Virdi of St. Mary’s School, Sector 46, in a one-sided affair 19-0 15-0.
In the semifinals, Thakur defeated Rishu Sharma 17-3 14-2 while Dhaka blanked Mayank Gupta 9-7 15-5. Maryam Khan won the girls’ sub-junior title after defeating Manroop Virdi 19-0 15-0. Earlier, in the semifinals, she defeated Gungun Kakkar 21-0 21-0 and Virdi beat Drishti Jain 10-14 12-4 15-7.
