There’s an urban myth that men are commitment-phobic. If this were true, then why do so many of Hollywood and Bollywood brides get cold feet? In Happy Bhag Jayegi, the story, as it appears to be, is about a runaway bride who lands up in Pakistan and then the whole drama unfolds. Here’s a list of Hollywood and Bollywood’s classic runaway brides.
A classic runaway bride
Perhaps, who started the trend! Maggie, played by Julia Roberts, in the Hollywood blockbuster movie Runaway Bride, keeps running away from multiple grooms. Maggie learns she needs to be herself without this patriarchal shadow and it’s (Richard Gere) who shows her how to find herself.
Movie with a message
Jennifer Lopez’s character Mary in the film Wedding Planner, just couldn’t marry sweet Mossimo when saucy Dr. Steve was on her mind. While the movie is yet another rom-com, it is a positive take on how it’s better to wait for Mr. Right than settle for Mr. Right-Here-Right-Now just because you’re feeling pressured or lonely.
Bride on a scooty
Shooting in Shimla, dressed as a bride, Kareena Kapoor runs away to go meet Aamir Khan in 3 Idiots. And well she rides on a scooter in her bridal avatar too. Now that’s some swag.
‘Can’t make up my mind’ bride
Well this could be the ‘confused bride’ where in the movie Namastey London, Katrina’s character is shown escaping to London after she gets married to Akshay in Punjab only to be able to marry her boyfriend in London. She eventually runs away and marries Akshay in the end.
The real bride who ran away
Sonam Kapoor played Dolly in Dolly ki Doli, which was based on a real life con bride. A girl who marries several guys just to steal their money. The runaway bride who take off before the first night.
The drama queen
Well, this was the modern day bride in Humpty Sharma Ki Dhulania, who abandoned her fiancé and hopped atop a decorated truck and travelled to another city to marry the guy she actually loved, which was played by Varun Dhawan.
