Salman Khan is co-producing Lions Of The Sea, a film based on a true story, on the voyage of Indian immigrants to Canada aboard Japanese steamer Komagata Maru.
The incident took place in 1914 when the Japanese ship Kamagata Maru sailed with more than 340 Sikh passengers to Canada but was denied entry. Actor Irrfan Khan would be playing a Sikh lawyer who fought for the passengers’ rights.
A source revealed, “Salman’s film will be shot in English, but will also be dubbed in another language. The makers are deciding whether to shoot it in Hindi or Punjabi. The English script has been locked and Irrfan Khan will play one of the main leads while Salman will only produce the film and not act in it. Indian and Canadian actors will be cast and the film starts shooting in summer 2017.”
The film is said to be the same movie that Deepa Mehta had announced in 2006 with John Abraham in the lead role, but the film was shelved because of the budget issues and actor’s dates.
