The Supreme Court on Wednesday made playing of the National Anthem compulsory in cinema halls at the start of every movie. All those present in the cinema hall must stand up and show due respect to the anthem and the national flag that would be depicted on the screen.

A Bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra and Amitava Roy passed the order on a PIL.
