WE agree with Sir Amir Ali that no attempt should be made to disturb the principle of Mussalman communal representation, that is to say, no attempt should be made except with the consent of the Mussalman community itself. Sir Amir Ali’s further statement that he believes that “unity of sentiment and the consciousness of identity of interests, which in due course will remove the necessity for special representation, is clearly developing” and that “if the details are rightly handled it should not take long before it reaches the bottom,” points to the path which statesmanship, especially among Mahomedans themselves, should follow. Is it not possible to assign a time limit after which Musslaman communal representation will automatically cease, unless the Mahomedan community will as a community make a special demand for its continuance for a further period?
