ONE of the peculiar features of modern India is the tendency observed more among the younger generation to adopt European culture, dress, and if possible names. Even those who stand for Indian nationality and are very proud of the ancient civilisation and culture of India, do not find any inconsistency in adopting to some extent European style of living, dress manners, etc., if are advantageous. In private life they are strictly orthodox, but in business life and outdoor activities they put on the appearance of European, so far as that is assimilable. This habit is sometimes critcised both by Europeans and Indians. But this is sometimes regarded as inevitable owing to the influence of European civilisation and ideals of life and activities.
