Plague in the Punjab

The following press communiqué has been issued by the Punjab Government: In view of the serious recrudescence of plague in the Punjab at the present time the Punjab Government considers it desirable to indicate that measures are being taken by the administration to check the disease and in what directions the people of the province can most effectively co-operate towards the same object. The four Indian Medical Service officers who are usually employed on plague duty in the province have been recalled to military duty, and eight Assistant Surgeons have been appointed in their place. The special plague medical staff is now very strong and consists of Chief Plague Medical Officer, 30 Assistant Surgeons and 20 Sub-Assistant Surgeons.
