EARLY on the morning of 17th instant, states a telegram dated Simla the 19th instant, our patrol form the Rastam front reported hostiel bodies of Bonerwals occupying low hills at the mouth of the Ambela Pass. In the afternoon of the same day large bodies of these tribesman, estimated at about four thousand, with many standards advanced for the foot hills to the North-East of the British camp. Our guns immediately opened effective fire and a vigorous infantry attack was launched. The enemy was completely routed and returned into the hills leaving twenty dead on the ground. Our casualties were two killed and two wounded.
