Referring to the statement made by Mr Asquith recently on the suggestion that the Rhodes scholarships originally allotted to Germany should be made available to India that he had no reason to recommend the allotment of German Rhodes scholarships to parts of the Empire which at present were not benefiting we stated that it was not clear which part of the Empire Mr Asquith had in mind

Referring to the statement made by Mr. Asquith recently on the suggestion that the Rhodes scholarships originally allotted to Germany should be made available to India, that he had no reason to recommend the allotment of German Rhodes scholarships to parts of the Empire which at present were not benefiting, we stated that it was not clear which part of the Empire Mr. Asquith had in mind. But we find that the Pioneer has devoted a leading article to recommend that the scholarships under the circumstances must be given to France and that this suggestion would have the support of the majority of Englishmen.
