ON Wednesday, the 7th April, the Honourable Justice Sir Donald Johnstone and the Honourable Mr Justice Shadi Lal pronounced order in the case in which Lala Daulat Rai, Managing Director of the Hindustan Bank, had been sentenced to five years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. Their lordships acquitted the accused. In another case in which Lal Daulat Rai had been sentenced to five years' rigorous imprisonment and a five of Rs. 5000, their lordships intimated at the hearing of the appeal that their lordships intended to accept the appeal. In the third appeal in which Lala Daulat Rai, Managing Director and Lala Hari Chand, Manager of the Multan branch were sentenced to seven years' and Rs 15,000 fine and two years imprisonment, respectively, their lordships have not yet delivered their judgment. In the Chief Court, Lala Daulat Rai was represented by Mr Clarence Kirkpatrick and Mr EW Parker and Lala Hari Chand by Mr Oertel.
